Free-beta methodology
SmartTrades organizes reported company fundamentals into relative scores. It is a research filter, not a prediction engine or individualized recommendation.
Smart Score
Data source
V0.2 uses standardized facts from SEC EDGAR Company Facts. No paid market-data API is required. Fundamental inputs update when companies file new reports; the GitHub workflow checks every weekday.
Quality
Relative profitability and cash-economics measures including return on equity, operating margin, free-cash-flow margin and free-cash-flow conversion.
Growth
Multi-year growth in revenue, reported earnings and free cash flow where enough comparable annual periods are available.
Financial strength
Balance-sheet leverage relative to free cash flow plus operating-income coverage of reported interest expense. Missing comparable inputs are scored neutrally rather than rewarded.
Dividend Growth
Uses reported common-stock dividends or dividends per share, payout coverage from free cash flow, business quality and balance-sheet strength. This is not a highest-yield screen.
What V0.2 does not score
Current valuation, live price, price momentum, analyst estimates, target prices or options data. Those require an appropriate licensed market-data source and will be added separately rather than approximated.
Comparability limits
SEC XBRL tags vary among issuers. SmartTrades uses common standardized tags and excludes companies with insufficient comparable history. Rankings are therefore limited to the current usable coverage universe, not the entire U.S. market.
